Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted to another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is a Microsoft Word (or compatible) file or a native (not scanned) PDF file.  If the manuscript is accepted it will be submitted as

    • A Microsoft Word or compatible file with equations prepared in Equation Editor or MathType, or
    • A LaTex file with an accompanying PDF version from the LaTex file.
  • Where available, DOI codes or URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except for URL addresses), and boldface; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the above Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • The instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • A list of supplementary materials that will be archived with the manuscript is provided at the end of the manuscript.
  • If this article is published in JCAT, the author(s) agree to the following terms:

    1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication.
    2. Articles may be copied and reproduced for academic and research purposes with no cost.
    3. All other reproduction requires permission of the author(s).
    4. If the authors cannot be contacted, permission can be requested from IACAT.
    5. Authors may enter into separate contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in JCAT.

Author Guidelines

Submission to the Journal of Computerized Adaptive Testing should follow the style set forth in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition(2009), with the following exceptions:
  • Manuscripts should be single-spaced
  • Manuscripts should be written in third person -- do not use "I' or "we"
  • Tables and figures should be placed in the text after their first mention
  • Figure titles should be placed above figures
  • Figures should use color for greater clarity where possible; however, since some readers will print articles on monochrome printers, colored plot lines should also be differentiated by line patterns.

In addition, manuscripts should be

  • Written entirely in English
  • Accompanied by an abstract and a set of five to seven keywords or phrases
  • Submitted as a PDF or Word file

To facilitate followup research and secondary analyses, JCAT will maintain an archive of supplemenatary materials for every published article.  These can include

  • raw data matrices
  • output files from data analyses
  • syntax files from computer runs
  • intermediate results files
  • additional tables and figures
  • long derivations
  • appendices

Please provide a list of materials to be archived at the end of your manuscript.

Following the Supplementary Materials list, provide any acknowledgments of assistance and/or financial support.
